BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A man accused of stealing two 12 packs of Mountain Dew is now locked up for battery on a police officer.
According to the arrest report, the suspect, Larry Spencer, 41, attempted to flee from a Baton Rouge Police officer when he was being questioned about the theft. During the chase, he allegedly caused the officer to fall to the ground and become injured.
The officer was questioning Spencer about theft that happened on Sunday, June 9 at the Circle K on Florida Blvd. The cashier told the officer that the man, later identified as Spencer, walked into the store and took the cases of soda, then left without paying for them. The entire incident was captured on surveillance cameras.
The officer located Spencer earlier today, Monday, June 10, in the 3300 block of Florida at a car wash. The officer notes that he was still wearing the same clothes he had seen the suspect wearing in the surveillance video.
When questioning Spencer about the crime, the officer claims that he pushed him and started running. The officer caught up with him and grabbed the back of his shirt. Spencer kept running, which caused the officer to fall to the ground.
The officer was treated at the scene by EMS for cuts and scratches to his elbows and knees.
Spencer was apprehended and arrested for Theft, Resisting an Officer, and Battery of a Police Officer.
