Ascension Parish, La — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in solving a homicide in Geismar. Detectives are searching for a number of suspects and two suspect vehicles.
On the evening on June 5, just after the 8:00 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Ellem Road and Stevenson Road off of Highway 73.
Bernard Solomon, 20, was found lying in the intersection with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Information from people who live near the location of the shooting reported seeing a mid-size silver colored car, believed to be a Nissan Altima, and another mid-size vehicle that was either dark red or maroon at the intersection at the time of the shooting. These witnesses all indicated that both vehicles fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
A surveillance camera in the area of Stevenson Road captured images of the suspect vehicles fleeing the scene immediately following the shooting. Both vehicles turned left onto Highway 73 from Stevenson Road, heading south toward Highway 30. Both vehicles are being sought by detectives.
It is believed that the silver colored car was occupied by an unknown number of male subjects and the maroon car was occupied by two male subjects.
During the overnight investigation detectives developed a suspect, Richard Gauthier, 18 in the 300 Bourg Street, Donaldsonville. An arrest warrant has been obtained on Gauthier for one count of first-degree murder. Gauthier and the victim are known to be acquaintances, but the motive is unknown.
