New Orleans, La (WDSU-CNN) — The Humane Society of Louisiana says a New Orleans animal advocate saw a driver deliberately run over a kitten on the Crescent City Connection.
According to the group, Liz Newman was driving on the Crescent City Connection when she saw a kitten in one of the lanes near the Tchoupitoulas Street exit.
Newman said she got out of her car and approached the cat when a white truck moved toward the kitten.
Newman said the truck deliberately swerved to run over the kitten when it could have gone straight and avoided her.
She added that the passenger to the very right of the vehicle turned around and laughed at her before speeding away, according to the Humane Society of Louisiana.
The kitten was rushed to a local shelter where it was determined that she could not survive her injuries and was euthanized.
"I am devastated. I was only a few yards away from rescuing this terrified kitten; in fact, just moments away from preventing its horrible death, when someone had to destroy that opportunity and kill this innocent kitten. It was so pointless and preventable. It appeared that the driver of the truck knew what was occurring,” said Newman.
The Humane Society of Louisiana said it has contacted the Louisiana State Police to help identify the driver of the truck, and it is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
