NBC NATIONAL NEWS — In Washington, the Senate is getting ready to deal with immigration reform, but the compromise eight Democrats and Republicans came up with has hit a snag.
It doesn't appear to be completely falling apart, but it does seem to be losing steam.
"I don't think there's any chance that comprehensive immigration reform could pass this summer," said Rep. John Fleming, Louisiana.
Lawmakers sound less optimistic today about immigration reform than they did a month ago.
"Let's bring them out of the shadows," said Senator Marco Rubio, Florida.
That was Senator Marco Rubio just after the "gang of eight" Democrats and Republicans announced a deal to put 11 million illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.
Now Rubio says the bill he helped create can't pass the Republican-controlled House.
"And I think it's going to struggle to pass in the Senate," said Senator Marco Rubio.
