Baton Rouge, La — A department that could help the government find tens of millions of dollars in revenue is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Lawmakers want to tweak just a few more things before they create the Debt Recovery Department.
The department would collect money that's overdue to the state.
Representative Chris Broadwater is optimistic the bill will pass and start pulling in money to the state immediately.
“We expect to see as much as 20 to 30 million dollars extra in collections in this upcoming fiscal year, and that's state general fund dollars that can be plugged in immediately," stated Broadwater.
Today, he worked with lawmakers to tweak an amendment to get the bill through the process and the department up and running.
