BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A Baton Rouge man was arrested for allegedly firing a handgun multiple times in a hotel. He’s also accused of robbing and raping two women he went there to meet.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the incident occurred at roughly around 3:50 a.m. on Friday, May 31. A witness at the hotel called police after he heard gun shots. He then claims to have heard a female say “don’t shoot me” from inside the room where he heard the noise.
Officials say the suspect, Clifton Lee Jones, 37, went to the Comfort Suites located on Valley Creek road to meet two women for “the exchange of sexual favors.” Reports indicate that he paid the women but was unhappy with the encounter. That’s when he fired the gun.
“He fired off a gun two times, and upon police arrival fired two more shots,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said.
After firing the first two shots, Jones allegedly raped and robbed both of the women. At this time officers arrived and attempted to enter the room. However, the keycard they were provided did not work, and that’s when they heard the sound of glass shattering.
When officers entered the room, they witnessed Jones exiting a broken window. He took off running, but was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Jones was arrested and charged with Attempted Aggravated Rape, Aggravated Rape, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, two counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder, Resisting an Officer and Illegal Use of a Weapon. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Jones was convicted of Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile on July 11, 2012.
