BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Discussion continues on the Budget over in House Appropriations. The deadline to pass a budget is looming closer, senators have until June 6, 2013 to pass an amended budget over and onto the governor's desk.
Senators have told NBC33 that it looks as though there will have to be another round of cuts, unless revenue can be found. Another problem facing the Senate Finance Committee is finding a way to fund the state's voucher program.
In the Senate Judiciary Committee there will be discussion about moving some of the elderly prison population to nursing homes. Louisiana has one of the largest prison populations in the nation. This would be the first step in moving some of those prisoners into hospice or end-of-life care.
