Baton Rouge, La — The sound of twenty-one cannon blasts rang out at the State Capitol, reminding everyone of our nation's fallen soldiers.
Today, state representatives paused to take time to remember soldiers who fought and died for our country. Major Derrin Theriault says it's important to take time on Memorial Day to honor the fallen, but says it never gets easier.
"Really what it does is it brings back memories of the folks I know, personal friends of mine, who died in Iraq,” stated Theriault. “You never forget and you always have to pause and remember. This is a set time that we do that, but really throughout the year there are things that trigger memories.”
Major Theriault went on to say that he's impressed by the patriotism of people in our state.
Memorial Day is on May 27.
