Scott, La — A Scott man has been arrested for drug charges after a routine traffic stop.
On May 21, officers with the Scott Police Department saw a Silver Mercury Mariner traveling through a dirt construction area. they followed the car and saw the vehicle travel across the center line twice, then enter the curves. while taking the curves, the car's right front and rear tires cross the white fog line and struck the grassy shoulder.
Scott Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on that vehicle in the 2500 block of W. Willow where the driver was identified as Jason Joseph Christian, 27.
Upon coming into contact with Christian, officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage as well as Christian swaying extremely while standing or walking. Christian was advised of his rights per Miranda and asked to submit to a standardized field sobriety test in which he did poorly.
Christian was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and transported to University Medical Center where he was read the rights pertaining to the chemical test. After being read the rights pertaining to the chemical test, Christian was asked to submit to a blood test kit in which he refused.
Christian was medically cleared for incarceration and transported to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department where he submitted to a breathalyzer test on the Intoxilyzer 5000. Christian submitted a breath sample of .039.
Christian was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for Improper Lane Usage and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated due to refusal of the blood test.
As Deputies of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department searched Christian for incarceration as clear plastic wrapper containing half of a Xanax tablet and two white rock like objects believed to be crack cocaine. Upon discovery of the contraband Christian was booked with the additional charges of Possession of Schedule II narcotics, Possession of Schedule IV narcotics and Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution.
