GONZALES, LA (NBC33) — The Gonzales man arrested for torturing a dog and killing a cat has a recent arrest for assault.
We’re told Jacob Blackwell, 25, was arrested by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office roughly two months ago for a charge of Simple Assault. His bond was set at $240 and he was released the same day he was arrested.
Blackwell is now he is facing two charges of animal cruelty after he was linked to a dog that was found dead in a field on Sunday, May 19.
“Blackwell had several dogs that he was keeping, and that this particular dog was being ‘uncooperative,’” officials said. “As a result of the dogs non compliance he kicked the dog to death. Blackwell then taped the dog up, and abandoned it in a nearby field in an attempt to make it seem as though someone else had killed the dog.”
The owner of the field, Ranji Bercegeay, told NBC33 News that the dog was so badly decomposed that the sex could not be determined.
"No sleep at all (Monday) night," he stated, "just having that memory play through your mind. It's gotten to where I don't, I didn't even eat (Monday) night or eat (Tuesday). The smell was horrendous and your mind just recalls that, what the smells like, and the horror of what that looks like."
A cat was also found on the property. Officials have linked Blackwell to the death of that animal, too.
