Grand Isle, La — The Grand Isle Speckled Trout Rodeo Board of Directors is proud to announce the 17th annual fishing rodeo will be held at Bridge Side Marina on May 24, 25 and 26.
Paul Foret, an artist from Baton Rouge, LA designed and handcrafted this year’s awards for all categories. Awards for the Largest Speckled Trout Male and Female will be a crystal vase and the fish will be mounted. The Louisiana State Master Angler will be presented with a crystal bowl and the coveted Blue Master Angler Jacket.
Additionally, eight awards will be given daily for largest speckled trout. Three overall trophies will be awarded for redfish, rat reds (27” and under), flounder, sheepshead, ling, mangrove snapper, drum and white trout.
Categories for Junior Division (12 and under) include speckled trout, redfish and hardhead catfish. New this year, every youth (12 and under) registered and present at the awards ceremony will receive a prize.
The entry fee is $20 and includes a rodeo cap. Tickets are available at all Grand Isle marinas. $3,000 in cash prizes and door prizes will be awarded on Sunday.
Weigh Station Hours are as follows: Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 2 p.m. Following Saturday’s weigh-in will be a dinner and dance. On Sunday, there will be lunch at noon, and the awards and door prizes will begin at 3 p.m.
The Rodeo Board of Directors takes on one major Caring for the Community project annually in conjunction with ongoing donations. This year, the Board will once again focus on the Beach Beautification Program by replacing palm trees damaged by the hurricane and drought. Last year’s major projects included purchasing a scoring table for Grand Isle High School’s Athletic Basketball Program and working in conjunction with the Town of Grand Isle on the baseball field equipment and facilities.
