GONZALES, LA (NBC33) — The Jambalaya Capital of the World is kicking off its annual festival on Thursday, May 23.
The family-friendly event is held in Gonzales at the Civic Center located off Airline Highway on Irma Blvd. There will be live music, games, rides, and of course, Jambalaya.
“In 1967…Steve Juneau, a native of Avoyelles, was very impressed with the Jambalaya prepared by area cooks,” reads a statement about the history of the festival. “He thought this would be a great method to promote the city. The idea was presented to the Gonzales Lion Club and the annual Jambalaya Festival was born.”
Over the years the event has expanded to include three days of activities and events, including a 5K and 1 mile run/walk, an arts and craft show, a car show, live music, and a carnival.
