Loranger, La — A Springfield man was killed after being hit by a vehicle while walking on an unlit section of a highway.
Prior to the crash, Charles Favre, 26, of Springfield, was walking in the northbound lane of LA 445, approximately 3 miles south of LA 40 in Tangipahoa Parish, around 9:00 p.m. on May 13; that section of the highway has no street lighting.
As Favre continued north, a 2010 Toyota pickup truck approached him from the rear and struck Favre with its right front fender, throwing him into the ditch on the east side of the highway.
Favre sustained fatal injuries as a result of the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.
The driver, Frank McDaniel, 34, of Loranger, was wearing a seat belt and received no injuries in the crash. He submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system.
