BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A lightning strike caused $1.3 million in damage this morning after a building became engulfed in flames.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department was dispatched to the Louisiana Association of Realtors on Bennington Ave at roughly 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10. When firefighters arrived, the west side of the building was up in flames.
Officials say the fire was so intense the roof on that side of the building caved in shortly after they arrived. However, quick action prevented the fire from spreading to the other side of the building.
It was nearly two hours before the fire was extinguished.
The building, which is destroyed, has an estimated value of $1 million. The contents inside are estimated to be roughly $300,000 in value.
No one was injured.
