BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — One Baton Rouge-native went to college with a basketball scholarship, but threw the towel in and decided to become an artist. His story, however, is unlike any other.
Jacob Zumo is new to the art world but he is already getting recognition all across the country.
“I found myself skipping other classes to go to art class," said Zumo.

Jacob was faced with a big question at an early age, he was an amazing basketball player and developed a passion for art, but which was more important.
"Complete basketball to complete art," noted Zumo.
He graduated from college, quit basketball and decided to shoot for the stars.
"I was always creative - a little trouble maker - but I would not have even imaged this even 2 years ago. There is no way I would have thought my life is how it is.”
He calls it pop art, but his avenue is a little different than other artists. He ended up trying out something new.
“I want to take this to the next level that's what I need to do," stated Zumo.
He tried something out of the box. Something called live painting. He sets up and paints during live concerts, events and even weddings.
“I ended up doing it and killing it and ever since I have been trying to do bigger and better things.”
He has done much bigger things. He’s painted portraits of well-known celebrities.
“It’s been pretty amazing who I have met and where it’s gotten me,” said Zumo.
And now one year after making his decision to ditch the basketball and pick up the paint brush, he's living life as a career artist here in Baton Rouge with his whole life in front of his eyes.
“I wake up and I create and it’s amazing. It's a blessing."
