CORSICANA, TX (NBC33) — A 2-year-old child died last night after he shot himself in the head with a handgun, according to reports.
The Corsicana Police Department reports that the shooting happened shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8. We’re told the child’s 35-year-old father called 911 and said that his son had shot himself with a handgun.
The child, Kinsler Davis, was taken to local hospital and he was later transported to the Children’s Hospital in Dallas. The child died a little after 11:00 p.m.
Physical evidence at the scene supports the father’s claim. The child seems to have found the handgun inside a bedroom and then fired it, striking himself in the head. His father was inside of a walk-in closet when the gun went off.
Child Protective Services and the District Attorney’s Office have been informed of the case. They will determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
