Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Though the downtown office of IBM won't be complete for over a year, business owners in the area say they're already preparing for the increase in customers.
Local restaurant Azteca is already adding more employees. Owners say they knew they'd picked a good location for their latest venture, but didn't know it would pay off so quickly.
“You know when we first opened this restaurant we were kind of in a corner of downtown - off the beaten path,” stated owner Mutaz Abusada. “But now I feel like we're going to be in the heart of what's going on in downtown Baton Rouge."
When it's complete, IBM should bring about 1,300 new jobs to the area. Their facility is being built from the ground up; aside from office space, it will also have apartments.
IBM will have a temporary office in the Capitol City in just over a month. The temporary offices will be housed off of Essen Lane.
