NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — Beginning in November, Southwest Airlines will offer non-stop flights between New Orleans and Austin, TX.
“This additional air service is great news for our city,” said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “I believe it shows that the demand for service to New Orleans continues to grow. Demand is the key in gaining new air service to a community.”
Few details have been released at this time regarding the frequency of the flights, or the cost. However, officials say they’re pleased with the decision.
“The new Austin destination brings the number of non-stop destinations from New Orleans on all of the airlines to a total of 41, putting us even closer to the pre-Katrina mark of 42," Ifikhar Ahmad, director of aviation at the New Orleans International Airport.
