BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A store started by three LSU alumni is the latest boost for business in downtown Baton Rouge.
Downtown Grocery opened at the corner of Third and Florida on Monday, May 6. The store is the latest in a string of new businesses that have opened this year in downtown.
“You know, I see so much potential in downtown for the future, so I decided to open up my second business down here, also,” Mutaz Abusada, co-owner of Downtown Grocery, said.
In the past month a pharmacy, even a hotel have opened up shop in the heart of downtown, and residents say they are all welcomed additions.
“I think we are actually reaching a point where starting at that critical mass, where there is a bunch a projects in the pipeline,” Scott Dagnostino, a resident in downtown Baton Rouge, said. “You can see there are 4 or 5 buildings that are under development right now, so it’s only becoming a better place to live.”
