Gonzales, La — The NPBPAF will host their 3rd annual kids fishing derby on Saturday May 4, 2013 at Cabela's in Gonzales.
Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. The event ends at 1:30 p.m.
This annual event promotes the organization’s mission of awareness of blood pressure issues in children and the need for increased screenings. Children should begin routine screens at age three as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association. The morning will feature a kids fishing derby, food, and music by the pond along with other family activities.
Most importantly, the NPBPAF will have registered nurses providing FREE blood pressure screenings for children ages three to 17. This will allow every parent an opportunity to receive a base line blood pressure for their child.
Children will have an opportunity to fish in one of three sessions (9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., or 11:00 a.m.). There is a $10.00 donation to enter the derby and the first 25 children registered for each session will receive a free Zebco fishing pole courtesy of Cabela's.
Last year's event drew over 200 children who received valuable blood pressure screenings. A large percentage of these children had never had a baseline blood pressure reading. The NPBPAF is hopeful to surpass last year's numbers.
