Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — A controversial bill that would essentially dissolve the Louisiana High School Athletic Association was discussed in the House Education Committee today.
The bill would have stopped any public high school sports team from playing with schools regulated by LHSAA.
The authors of the proposal said it was written to make sure no schools were working with an association they feel is too biased.
The bill was penned after the organization made changes in divisions.
"We wanted to make sure it was an organization that did not discriminate against schools based upon their admissions criteria, particularly when the admissions criteria doesn't apply to those particular schools," said Representative Wesley Bishop.
The bill's authors stated that they want to table the talk for now, but plan to work on a way to pass the law with amendments.
