NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Family, friends and neighbors of 8-year-old Leila Fowler gathered at the girl's former school on Tuesday to share their grief over her death.
More than 1,000 flocked to the vigil at Jenny Lind Elementary School.
A sign at the entrance to the campus reads "We will miss you Leila!"
For a second day, grief counselors were on campus helping Leila's classmates, teachers and friends cope with the crime that has rattled an entire community.
In the meantime, officials are investigating whether a man arrested in Placerville -- accused of trying to kidnap a baby -- is connected to Leila's killing in Calaveras County.
