BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — NBC33 is getting ready to help six people pump up their fitness routines. Contestants team up with Bally Total Fitness trainers and compete to win the six month program.
Lifting weights, running, and hitting the gym are only a small part of getting healthy. That's why NBC33's Losing it in Louisiana arms six over weight contestants with a personal trainer to teach them how to finally get fit.
“The hardest part is getting them in the door,” Carlos Rachel, Bally Total Fitness personal trainer, explained. “Losing it in Louisiana gets them in the door.”
Over the next six months contestants will slim down and change up their eating habits to stay in the competition.
“The hardest part for contestants is after the first month they are here. The honeymoon period the brand new it's over with,” Rachel said. “Now it's work. Now we still try to make it fun and enjoyable. It's a lot of work to get into the shape you want to be in to reach your goals.”
Last year contestants did fitness test and team relays. this year the challenges get harder. The trainers won't accept any of their excuses. They want contestants to push through the pain and fight to lose the weight.
"We can only do so much we need a person who will be wiling to come in and do what they need to do especially in their off time," Rachel stressed.
NBC33 wasn't looking for someone who just wanted to lose just few pounds before hitting the beach. These are people who want to lose 30 pounds or more. Rachel said it's totally doable.
"The average weight loss per person is one or two pounds a week. A healthy weight loss.” Rachel explained. “In six months you have 24 weeks you can typically get to that goal."
For the first three months of the competition We'll eliminate one contestant each month.
Then, during the final 3 months, the last 3 contestants--go head to head for the title.
Tune in to NBC33 News next Tuesday May 8 to meet the season four contestants. The new contestants will be introduced to their personal trainers.
