Port Allen, La (NBC33) — The fight between the mayor of Port Allen and the city's Chief Financial Officer went back to court today.
A judge ended up postponing the hearing until next month. He wants both sides to try and work things out.
The judge wants McCain's lawyers to write out what their opinion of what the mayor can and cannot do to the city’s CFO.
Slaughter wasn't in court, but her brother in-law Ralph Slaughter was there in her place. He says the mayor has not tried to stop McCain.
"Mayor's been going on about her business. I think most of what's been happening out here is you have other people trying to tell the mayor what to do,” said Ralph Slaughter. “Mayor, you need to you got to sign this check. Mayor you got to do that. Those are the mayor's job.”
"What's worked for the city for the past 30 years is not the way the mayor wants to run the town,” stated McCain’s lawyer Cy D’aquila Jr. “It's not the way she wants to run the city - we respect that. Now, it's just the process of trying to find how everyone in City Hall can mesh together."
The new hearing is scheduled for May 29.
