ASCENSION PARISH, La (NBC33) — Rachel Deville has been grieving for almost 19 years; her eleven-month-old daughter, Brittany, was taken away from her by a drunk driver.
Now, those memories are haunting her once again.
Stanley White was driving drunk when he got in a car accident with Deville. The accident took the life of Deville's daughter.
White was sentenced to two years in jail, but due to a mistake made within the Ascension Parish court system, he never served a day.
Nearly 20 years later, the case has been reopened.
"She deserves justice. I know it’s been a long time, but he pled guilty to it," stated Deville. "We're hoping that it’s taken care of, and we can start healing again."
White will be back in court on Friday.
