HOUMA, LA (NBC33) — A 24-year-old man was arrested during a routine traffic stop after an officer discovered a stolen semi-automatic pistol and marijuana.
The Houma Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Friday, April 26 shortly after 1:00 a.m. We’re told an officer patrolling the area of East Street noticed a speeding vehicle that did not have an illuminated license plate.
Officials say the officer initiated a traffic stop. When the suspect exited the vehicle, the officer claims to have smelled marijuana coming from the car.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and they found the stolen 9mm pistol, a duffle bag with 60.21 grams of marijuana and $275 in cash.
The driver of the vehicle, Kjuan Howard, was arrested and charged with License Plate Illumination, Speeding, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I (marijuana), Illegal Carrying of a Weapon while in Possession of a Controlled Substance along with Failure to Possess a Drug Tax Stamp.
Howard was booked into the Terrbonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.
