BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Over one hundred volunteers were up bright and early to help with the food bank distribution in Scotlandville.
Southern University students as well as high schoolers boxed and handed out groceries to families in need Saturday.
The Scotlandville area is always in need of fresh food and Saturday’s event helps those who are really struggling.
The food bank says without the donors and those volunteers’ people would be going hungry in our community
"Fresh produce is important to a child diet and elderly diet to all of us but is often times too expensive for people pay if they even have access to it which they don't here,” said food bank volunteer, Charlene Montelao.
"I'm super duper excited they tell us how much they appreciate it and give us stories about their situation what ever it is going on, I mean its a great cause," said Southern University student, Courtni Figures.
