Baton Rouge, La — Increased security and a “no bags rule" will be in affect this weekend when over 20 LSU students head north for the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon.
Students in the university's physiology of endurance training class are using their motto "Keep Calm and Marathon On" for this year’s race.
Though the slogan was picked before the Boston bombings, its message - to keep the running community a resilient one - means even more now.
"Running is a selfish sport. It's important to look outside yourself and appreciate the opportunity you have to run, to have a healthy life, to train and enjoy the experience,” stated Dr. Laura Stewart, LSU assistant professor.
Dr. Stewart says the group has taken all safety precautions necessary to make sure they are prepared.
They leave on Friday.
