Baton Rouge, La — ExxonMobil presented a check for $886,774 to the LSU Foundation as part of the ExxonMobil Foundation’s 2012 Educational Matching Gift Program.
The gift, announced during an on-campus breakfast on April 25, represents the ExxonMobil Foundation match of 2012 employee, retiree and surviving spouse donations of $319,115 to LSU, the LSU AgCenter, and the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center. With the ExxonMobil Foundation match, the total commitment from ExxonMobil, its employees and retirees was $1,205,889, and continues the company’s longstanding support for LSU.
“ExxonMobil’s generous matching gift program reflects a commitment to philanthropy that directly impacts the LSU community and those we serve,” said Lee Griffin, president and CEO of the LSU Foundation. “Matching gifts multiply the impact that our alumni and friends make when they partner with the LSU Foundation to support the programs that are most meaningful to them.”
The ExxonMobil Foundation Educational Matching Gift Program has provided more than $500 million to higher education since 1962. Under the program, the ExxonMobil Foundation provides 3:1 unrestricted, matching funds for donations to colleges and universities with which employees or retirees are affiliated. LSU has consistently been one of the program’s top beneficiaries in the world.
“ExxonMobil employees and retirees have a long history of generous support for higher education,” said Suzanne McCarron, president, ExxonMobil Foundation. “We are pleased to be able build on their commitment and invest in the development of the next generation leaders and innovators from LSU, a flagship university in the state.”
Among the LSU colleges and units supported by this most recent gift are the LSU Flagship Annual Fund; LSU AgCenter; the Colleges of Agriculture, Art & Design, Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Human Sciences & Education (including the LSU Laboratory School), Music & Dramatic Arts, and Science; the E. J. Ourso College of Business; Division of Student Life & Enrollment; LSU Continuing Education; the Honors College; the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center; LSU Laboratory School; Manship School of Mass Communication; the LSU Museum of Art; LSU Office of Student Aid & Scholarships; LSU Press; LSU Rural Life Museum; and Swine Palace. Gifts were also made directly to the LSU Foundation and the LSU Alumni Association.
Including this matching gift, in 2012 the company directly invested nearly $1.4 million to LSU through all programmatic support, including the ExxonMobil Diversity Mentor-Scholar Program in the College of Engineering, GeauxTeach Math/Science program, and North Baton Rouge STEM Grant programs through the LSU CAIN Center.
