NEW ROADS, LA (NBC33) — The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a shocking murder
a 91-year-old woman found beaten to death in her own home. It's the first murder in New Roads and Pointe Coupee Parish this year.
"There she was lying at the foot of the door wrapped up in a quilt or a blanket or something, but she was in a puddle of blood," Connie Morris described finding her mother Buelah Morris' dead body inside her mother's home.
Buelah Morris' body was discovered inside her home Tuesday in the pecan grove subdivision in New roads.
Connie Morris still remembers the last words her mother ever told her.
"She wanted me to take better care of myself she was worried about me. She was more worried about me.
she said she loved me."
Annette Battley lives across the street. She went to check on Buelah Morris Tuesday. But, she wasn't prepared for what she saw.
"It looked like somebody had just beat her and she fell," Battley described. "Just a funny feeling. Chills just went through my body. Knowing how long she was on the floor that way is just what i can't understand."
Battley says her neighborhood is normally safe. Now she's not so sure.
"It's very shocking just can't believe it," Battley said. "Why they so cruel? Why would they do that to an old lady not doing nothing? she just was a nice old lady."
Connie Morris says her mother was a quiet kind person. A person who will be missed by many.
"I don't know who why or what the motive is. But whoever it is I hope they get caught," Morris said.
Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Bud Torres says his office is doing everything it can to catch Beulah Morris's killer.
