Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — It’s a sweet day for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank – today, they received over 27,000 pounds of sweet potatoes!
Garber Farms in Mississippi donated all these potatoes to the Society of St Andrew and they, in turn, are giving them to the GBR Food Bank.
LSU students volunteered their time to sort and bag all the spuds.
These potatoes will be huge for the community because at many food banks, fresh produce is harder to come by.
The Society of St. Andrews mission is to salvage and donate food that would have just been thrown away or gone bad.
