BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — IBM is bringing hundreds of jobs to Baton Rouge and held a job fair Tuesday looking to fill those positions.
Large groups of people showed up to see what this company had to offer. Two local job seekers said they're hoping IBM picks them.
Gordon Shuckrow has had numerous jobs that he says have just been jobs. But now at 35, he’s ready to start looking for a career and thinks that IBM is a good place to start that search.
"I need a little more of a challenge," said Shuckrow. "IBM is a huge company and there has got to be lots of opportunities,” noted Shuckrow.
IBM announced it will be moving to the Capitol City and will bring a multitude of jobs. Gordon sees this as a chance to give his dream of a getting that golden career a head start.
"I guarantee there are a lot of people in this line, and I am not going to say that I am better than any of them or all of them, but they've got to hire some people," said Shuckrow.
Fellow job seeker Lillian Smith is also ready to start making a name for herself, "I want to see what kind of opportunities the company can give me."
She believes IBM will give not only give her a great experience if she's hired, but it will also will change many peoples lives.
"A lot of people have lost their jobs and possibly been laid off, and this is an excellent opportunity for the people of Louisiana to step back into work,” said Smith.
