IBERIA PARISH, LA (NBC33) — A new phone scam is attempting to gain personal information from callers by claiming to be a representative from COX cable.
“The individuals are calling and claiming that if they provide personal information they could receive a $100 gift card,” Cpt. Ryan Turner, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, explained. “We contacted COX and they confirmed that they do not have any promotion like that running.”
Personal information such as your social security number or home address could be used to steal your identity.
So far no one has fallen victim to the scammers. However, they ask anyone to contact your local law enforcement agency if you receive a call like this.
