NBC NATIONAL NEWS — San Francisco's city attorney says he is launching an investigation into whether Nevada health officials are systemically sending psychiatric patients to san francisco and other cities.
It's commonly called "patient dumping."
San Francisco's city attorney informed Mike Wilden, the director of Nevada's Health and Human services, that hundreds of patients from Nevada's Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital were shipped out of Nevada, with many ending up in California.
He's calling on state health officials to provide hundreds of records from bus receipts of discharged patients to records of approval of their transfers to California.
State officials have stuck to their defense: Many patients were mentally stable and cleared to go home to their destinations where family and friends were located.
Still, questions remain.
