BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Baton Rouge running community will unite Saturday morning to show their support for the Boston community.
Anyone can join in and support with a 2.6 mile run or walk. The event will start at 8:00 a.m. on the steps of the State Capitol. Organizers say the goal is to show unity and shared experience.
"We want to show a united community front,” Brandon Williams, creator of ClaimYourJourney.com, said. “That we do acknowledge what happened there and we don't think it's a great thing, but we want to show that the community is strong and that we are still going to run."
Runners, walkers and spectators are encouraged to arrive early to hear speeches from local running leaders.
A total of 95 runners from Louisiana were registered to participate in the 2013 Boston Marathon. Fortunately, none were injured in the explosions. Click here to view a list of their names.
