HAMMOND, LA (NBC33) — A Hammond man was arrested after he turned himself into police for hitting a pedestrian and fleeing the scene.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the Gary Shannon is charged with one count of Negligent Injury and one count of Felony Hit-and-Run.
Officials say Shannon was traveling on East Park Avenue in Hammond on April 9 when he struck the pedestrian. The victim was knocked into a nearby ditch and suffered serious injury. However, Shannon fled the scene.
The victim was allegedly out walking his dog when he was hit. He was found by his daughter.
With no witnesses, deputies searched the scene for clues. They located several parts of the vehicle and began searching for a match.
On April 10, Shannon turned himself into Hammond Police. He told them that he possibly killed a man.
The victim remains in critical condition.
