NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Rudy Giannoni marks a major birthday milestone on April 18th. The World War II veteran turns 90-years-old, and for it, he wanted a ride in this.
"The B-17 is getting to be part of the past. World War II is getting to be part of the past, and I just wanted to be on a B-17 as a last thing in my life to do, as a reminder of World War II," he says.
This is what Rudy remembers about the plane known as the flying fortress. Him, on his waist gun, flying seven missions over Europe.
"As a matter of fact, I was only 21 years of age. I had no fear then. I had no fear of flying, not even in combat," he says.
And flying again he was in the Liberty Foundation's B-17, the "Memphis Belle."
