BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — After almost a decade on the run, Brian Antonio Spears is behind bars, for the murder of 21-year old Louis Davis.
It all happened on the 6300 block of Airline Highway, which is a very busy street, nearly 10 years ago.
"It's huge for us, any time we can close a case that nearly 10 years old,” said Baton Rouge Police Departments, Cpl. Tommy Stubbs. “The fact is it's very important to us, important for the victim's families, that we are able to do this."
On August 4, 2004, Davis was riding in the passenger seat of a car when another car driving by fired at them and in turn killed Davis. The driver survived. Police have run into dead ends ever since. The case was solved after someone came forward with key information.
"Once this gets through the court system, maybe they can get some closure," noted Cpl. Stubbs.
The family of Louis Davis can now breathe a sigh of relief and the Baton Rouge Police Department will continue to crack these cold cases.
“I'm proud of the work that we do. We come to work every day and put our lives on the line for the citizens of Baton Rouge and we will continue to do it," said Cpl. Stubbs.
Spears was booked in the East Baton Rouge prison Wednesday morning. He's been charged with First-Degree Murder.
