GONZALES,LA(NBC33) — People living in Gonzales are excited about 50 to 75 new jobs coming to the city.
Emerson Process Management got the go ahead from the Gonzales City Council to move forward with plans to build a new regional campus. The jobs would become available one the facility opens.
"I think it's only going to be a win win. I keep saying that it's a win win," Colyd Cann, Gonzales Resident, explained. "The jobs in this area we could use them. "
Colyd Cann lives and works down the road from the new Emerson site. He says the project is a good sign for the area.
"It can only do for this community what is going on right now. It's helping us to grow even bigger. We are the fastest growing parish in the state of Louisiana," Cann described. "Ascension Parish we are very proud of it. "
The Gonzales City Council changed the zoning for the new site. The building will go up at the near the new River Parish Community College of I-10 and La. 44.
According to company officials "When finalized, this new 134,000-square-foot facility is expected to add approximately 50-75 new jobs and be home to a global service center, regional headquarters, training center and custom valve manufacturing operations for Emerson Process Management."
"It's a good buzz around the community. They are excited about it and hoping they could get some jobs out of it between them or their family members. We are excited about it," Cann described.
Mark Petite also lives near the new facility. He said the new facility could really help young people in the area.
"It's good to have new jobs in addition to the jobs that we have in the chemical industry," Petite said.
People living in the area are excited the company will bring in more than just jobs. They are also going to offer training opportunities.
"Anytime you can have a facility that trains our young people to do a job that's a good thing," Petite described.
The company plans to break ground on the new site in June. They plan to move in to the new building by April 2014.
