IBERVILLE PARISH, La (NBC33) — Iberville Parish schools are upping security measures on campus and will now have more officers to help keep the kids safe.
There are currently four school resource officers and they will be adding a fifth come next year.
The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office will also be adding a full-time truancy officer and are looking into a program to train for active shooters.
These changes were recommended by not only the school board, but the community as well.
"I love my job and this is just part of it. The citizens and children of Iberville Parish deserve the best we have to offer," said Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi.
The sheriff's office and school board will be splitting the cost of the additional officers.
