BAKER, LA (NBC33) — A visit from a neighbor to wish a man happy birthday ended with a trip to the hospital and an arrest. The feuding women reportedly threatened each other repeatedly in front of the suspect’s three children.
The Baker Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Monday, April 8 shortly before 9:00 p.m. We’re told it all started when the suspect, Brittany Washington, went over to her neighbor’s house to wish a man who lived there a happy birthday.
Officials say the victim, Tricia Hayes, asked the suspect to leave as she was not welcome at her home on Azalea Street. At that point Washington walked away from the home with her three children following behind her.
The victim reportedly made threats of violence against Washington and followed her to her home. At that point Washington opened the door to her vehicle and pulled out a gun. She confronted the irate woman and the gun went off. It struck Hayes in the leg.
Witnesses took the gun from Hayes and placed it in the home until police arrived. The gun was then turned over to officers and Washington was placed under arrest and charged with Aggravated Second-Degree Battery. She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Hayes was transported to a local hospital for treatment. We’re told the bone in her lower leg was shattered and she required surgery to repair it. However, her injury is not life threatening.
