Baton Rouge, La — Keana Barnes, the 33-year-old offender who escaped from the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women in early January is back behind bars in Louisiana.
Correctional officers from LCIW and Elayn Hunt Correctional Center traveled to California Wednesday to pick Barnes up after her apprehension last week by the Los Angeles Police Department. She waived extradition in federal court, clearing the way for her return to Louisiana. Barnes arrived at LCIW at approximately 4:00 p.m. Thursday.
Barnes was serving a 25 year sentence for manslaughter at the time of her escape. She had been in DOC custody since May 2004.
