SCOTT, LA (NBC33) — The city of Scott has been proclaimed by state legislature as the boudin capital of the world. Now, a new festival will highlight the achievement with three days of meat-filled entertainment.
“To be on a world stage to say that Scott, Louisiana is the boudin capital of the world, to be able to advertise our city on a world stage is a very unique opportunity," says Mayor of Scott, Purvis Morrison.
And Scott residents say it's been a long time coming.
"It means a lot to everybody in Scott. We're the boudin capital of the world. We're going to have the festival this weekend, and it's going to be a good time," says Denise Barker, resident of Scott.
Scott businesses sold 1.5 million pounds of boudin over the past year. Selling 15,000 pounds of boudin a week, Dons Specialty Meats will be the key link to the Scott Boudin Festival. The business is already making boudin for the festival. Today, store manager Jimmy Guidry shared the secret to perfect boudin. He says it's all about consistency.
"All of our seasonings, our onion, bell pepper, you know garlic, your parsley, and the meat everything is weighed and measured," says Jimmy.
Area hotels and camp grounds are all booked up, and area officials are expecting as many as 6,000 people each day.
"It's all about the people getting together and having a good time. People love to party here in south Louisiana so I think everybody is going to have an excellent time here," says Mark Cole, owner of Don's Specialty Meats.
The festival will kick off on Friday, April 5 with a free admission family night. Gates will open on Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with a $5 admission. There will be carnival rides, games and music, as well as kid-friendly activities.
