GONZALES, LA — Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez proclaimed April, 2013 as “Autism Awareness Month in Ascension Parish.”
Sandra Trammell, an Autism resource specialist with the Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders/Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge accepted the proclamation.
Trammell announced the 4th Annual Active For Autism 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 8 a.m. till noon at the Louisiana State Police Training Grounds at Independence Boulevard in Baton Rouge. Trammell said last year’s event raised over $100,000 for the Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Trammell also thanked President Martinez and Ascension Parish Government for being supportive, especially with the Ascension Parish Inclusive League.
“Because of that league, our kids have sports in our parish and they love the uniforms, they love the medals and they really love getting the medals,” Trammell said.
