ANGOLA, LA (NBC33) — Angola Prison is adding another annual event to its roster to raise funds for preservation projects around the facility.
The Louisiana State Penitentiary Museum Foundation will host an 18-hole round golf tournament on Friday, May 3, 2013. It will be held at Prison View Golf Course beginning at 8:00 a.m. and again at 1:00 p.m.
The entry cost is $100 per player and $400 per team. Entry form and payment deadline is due April 29, 2013.
All funds raised will be used for the preservation of historical sites on Angola. Current projects include restoration of the Waukesha Pumps that were originally built in the 1940’s to pump rain water off the penitentiary grounds into the Mississippi River.
“These projects are vital to the penitentiary and to the history of our site,” officials say.
The entry fee will cover the use of the course, golf cart, continental breakfast, lunch and a tour of the Angola Museum and the Penitentiary.
There will be a four person scramble, with prizes for first, second, and third place, hole-in-one, longest drive, closest to the pin, and putting contest. There will also be a silent auction of inmate art.
