Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Hundreds of Christians showed their faith on the streets of downtown Baton Rouge.
They met at the Cathedral of St. Joseph for a Way of the Cross ceremony.
They made their way through the streets, to Capitol Park and back, pausing along the way for different prayers.
Organizers said the crowd was bigger than it had been in the past, in part because Pope Francis had inspired them.
"Everything about him indicates that he is going to be a pope who emphasizes how we live our lives and how we express our faith in what we do in a public sphere, versus only what we do in our sacramental life," stated David Aguillard with Catholic Charities.
At each of the 14 stops they made, the prayers had a different message related to the social problems we face today.
In the prayer booklets each person read from, there were names of several charities that work to solve those problems here in town.
