BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Drive by Cortana Mall now, and you’ll see many buildings and storefronts empty; but now, some businesses said that a revamp of Cortana Mall could breathe new life into that area of Baton Rouge.
According to the Baton Rouge Business Report, Cortana Mall was purchased for $6 million.
The parent company, Moonbeam Equities, said they're not sure what the long term plans are for the mall, but they're looking into adding stores and renovating the place.
Plans for Cortana haven't been released. Management told NBC33 that they weren't ready to comment on any plans they have, and would like to get to know the area a little better first.
Many of those empty buildings have been sitting for as long as five years. Local storeowners said it's the reputation of the area that's partly to blame.
There's no word on when plans will be announced, but business owners said for now, they're hopeful it's the first step in a big change for that part of the Capitol City.
