PLAQUEMINE, LA (NBC33) — Women in Iberville Parish now have more options for their healthcare.
Ochsner officials cut the ribbon on a new Women's Services Center in Plaquemine.
The Ochsner Health Center will have OBGYNs, ultrasounds and more.
Right now it's the only women's health center in Iberville Parish. Unitl now, women had to drive to Baton Rouge to be able to see a doctor.
The new facility will help make it easier for pregnant women to get prenatal care.
"That's 10 trips over there (Baton Rouge) and back, and that's about a day - that's about 24 hours of their life,” stated Dr. Ralph Dauterive with Ochsner. “We should be able to provide for a normal pregnancy. She should only have to go across the river one time - to deliver her baby.”
The health center opens for patients tomorrow morning.
