BATON ROUGE, LA. (NBC33) — The second consecutive night of freezing temperatures is possible for the Capital area. The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a "Freeze Warning" for the Capital area from 2:00 a.m. through 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.
They say temperatures could drop lower Wednesday morning than this morning.
"Clear skies and lighter winds are expected to allow temperatures to drop near freezing or below across areas north and west of Lake Pontchartrain into southern Mississippi after midnight. Both the areal extent and duration of the freeze tonight is expected to be longer than what occured this morning."
Louisiana parishes under tonight's Freeze Warning include: Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.
A Freeze Warning means temperatures are expected to be near or below freezing for two to four hours overnight. Cover or bring-in your temperature sensitive plants. Vegitation that is not protected could die. Also, keep your pets in mind tonight. If you're cold, then they're likely to be cold, too.
Be careful with portable heaters during the cold weather. They can be a fire danger or emit poisonous fumes. For heater safety information, click here .
