Central, La (NBC33) — The Department of Public Works said it won't be much longer until people in Central have easier access to I-12.
The Central Thruway is in the final stages of being built.
It's a four-mile, $62 million project that would link Central to the interstate; the project includes four lane highway and seven bridges.
The thruway is set to open later this year.
DPW said it's a huge time saver for people in Central.
“There are a few last items - punch list items - but other that, the only thing keeping it from being fully open is the intersection at Greenwell Springs,” stated David Guillory with the DPW. “It will cut travel times for a lot of folks.”
The thruway is part of Mayor Holden's Greenlight Project.
Work started on the Central Thruway in 2008.
